Todays music: N'Sync: No Strings Attatched

Funniest thing on this trip:

Sunday, before we pulled out of town, we stopped for me to get lunch at Subway. After greeting my friend at the counter, I said, "I want a roasted chicken breast salad."

"Would you like double meat with it?" she asked me.

I hesitated before answering, because the other people working there hadn't ever asked that. The question had taken me off guard. "Uh, sure."

"Do you want more chicken, or something else?"

I thought for a moment, wondering what would be good with it. "What's good with that?"

She shrugged. "Alot of people like chicken and club."

"Oh, that sounds good."

"Cheese?"

"Yes, please." I watched as she got out the extra lunch meat, rolled it up with the cheese and sliced it into peices.

"Oh, finally someone who will cut the cheese for me." I realized what I had said, too late. I grinned and suppressed a giggle. She grinned, so I think she got it too, but I continued to cover it up. "Usually most people just leave it in the big slices and it's hard to eat."

At the register, the man I knew was the owner, asked me all the usual stuff. Do I want dressing? Crackers? I said no to both. Then he asked, "Do you want to use utensils or fingers?"

"I'm not living in the dark ages, I'd better take the utensils."

By the time I got back out to the car, I was laughing so hard, I could hardly tell James what I was laughing about.

Anyway, I've not been getting much work done. Mostly I've succumbed to the road hypnotism and just sit staring off into space. This morning I finished, "Daddy on the Way", a Christian Romance in a series that I'd like to write for. In fact, this new project is aimed for that publisher. After finishing reading it, I realized I've a long way to go to making my story of the same quality and the characters as real. So, I sat in a long daydream and let the characters play out in my mind. I've now got more story to add to it, a little more middle and a great ending. It's coming along slowly. After all the daydreaming, I managed to add 1000 more words.

I also read some on "Diplomacy of Wolves" and some short story ebooks.

Speaking of ebooks, my luck has granted me to win two contests this month! First, Fictionwise.com picked me and 299 other members to recieve 50% discount on an order (not so much a big deal) and I ordered $12 (before the discount) of stories. Mostly Harlan Ellison stories. I'd never read his stuff before. I read one story, "Pennies Off a Dead Man's Eyes". It was wierd but good.

The second contest I won was Preditors and Editors. They selected me randomly (so the e-mail says) from all the poll voters. I've got two ebooks! I've never heard of the authors, but hey, I still won!

Lots of snow here. The roads are mostly clear, but the parking lots are a mess. There's also heavy fog, which is why we are still in Kansas tonight. We're heading back to Arkansas in the morning. I get the fun job of driving, so I can finally listen to my books on tape in peace! (except for the fact that we have walkie-talkie thingys and I just know James or my sis will be bugging me more often than I want! Grr!)
