  February 27, 2001:

Today has been a long day. I took an extra long nap and ended up being rushed through lunch to go pick up the kids I babysit from their school. Then I went to the gym, came home, got part of dinner in to cook and laid down. Tonight I felt worse than I have so far.

Yes, I am pregnant. You can see the picture of the positive test at the right. We took two and they were both faint positives. I'm suspecting it's because I'm drinking much more water than I had been and it's watered down the urine.

After I ate dinner, I felt better so I splurged with a cup of ice cream. I've been keeping track of what I'm eating yesterday and today (Using the Best-Odds diet plan in the 'What to Expect when You're Expecting' book) and found that I've been deficient in several things including fat. That, plus the fact that I've lost a pound a day for the last 5 days (Friday I was 206 and today I'm 202), prompted me to have the ice cream. James bought it on Saturday and I told myself that I'd splurge with some to celebrate if I were positive after the test yesterday. I didn't get to have any because we went out of town and ate at McAlister's Deli and by the time we got back, I didn't want anything else before bed.

I'm a bit concerned about that weight loss. It's wierd that it's suddenly dropping off now, but I think it was caused by two things. One is the extra fluids I've been taking in and the extra trips to the bathroom. The other is that I've been exercising for 2 months now, I'm building muscle and that muscle is working for me in burning fat.

But the problem still remains that I needn't be losing any weight right now. I'm not going to make a habit of eating the ice cream everyday, because I don't need it to go up until the second trimester. I'm just going to keep an eye on it. I'm hoping it'll balance out soon since I've added a bit more to my diet. I was low on protein rich foods and complex carbs so I've added the occasional whole grain piece of bread, brown rice, and healthy cereals.

Today I ate 4 small meals. Except for this morning where I ate something at 10 (I was up before 9) and then again at 2 (because of my nap) I felt like I was constantly eating. This is good for my surgar levels, but I just worry if I'm eating too much. Here's what I had today:
Breakfast:
1/2 c. multi-grain cheerios, 1/2 c. skim milk, 8 oz. calcium added strawberry orange juice (with calcium and iron supplement), sips of water
Lunch:
approx. 8 Romaine lettuce leaves (center stems removed), approx. 1/2 cup chopped ham, approx. 1/4 c. shredded mozzerella cheese, 1/2 cucumber, 1/4 cantalope, water
Mid afternoon snack:
water, approx. 1/4 c. roasted peanuts
Dinner:
1 baked chicken drumstick, 1 cup brown rice, 3/4 c. butter beans, 1/2 cup cooked spinach, 1 piece of whole grain wheat bread with calcium added butter, water
Dessert: 1 cup Blue Bell Caramel Sundae Crunch ice cream
Before bed:
Planning a cup of calcium added orange juice with calcium and iron supplement

I guess it'll probably take me a few days to a week to get a plan figured out. I know I'm probably worried about it too much, but I want to eat healthy and just enough.

I went and exercised today. They have yoga videos there with a private room to do them in. I watched part of one of the videos and decided not to do it. It wasn't designed for pregnant women and even warned them not to do any abdominal twists. There were quite a few abdominal twists, so I decided not to do it. Oh, I know that they probably put that to cover there behinds in case of lawsuit, but still until I talk to a doctor, I'm being very careful in the area of exercise.

I did 30 mins on the elliptical machine on ramp 1, resistance 3. I feel comfortable doing that, although today I had fairly strong nausea hit about 5 minutes into it. I slowed down a bit, but didn't stop and it gradually got better. I think I just didn't have enough protein in my lunch. That and the cantalope sorta upset my stomach and then when I had the peanuts it made it worse. I could have skipped the peanuts, but I've made a new rule: No more working out on an empty stomach. I have to eat at the most an hour before working out. Today was 10 mins before and probably was too close.

Anyway, I'm probably boring you all with all this. My posts have been long lately, maybe they'll taper off and get shorter again once the excitement wears down a little. I would like to get back to writing soon too, but my brain is either too tired or too excited.

TTFN!
