  March 22, 2001:

Two pieces of good news, one writerly, the other non-writerly.

I got a really good crit back on DR. Rather than giving generalized comments that did nothing but tell me it was an awful story, the critter told me specific comments and how to fix it! I'm so happy! So, the next two days I will be fast and furiously working on DR to get it ready to send it to WotF by March 31! I'm so excited! This will be my first entry!

The other good news is: Today while I was visiting the library, one of the ladies that work there asked me if I could take a job as coordinator of the Summer Reading Program! I agreed! Evidently they got a private donation to pay someone to do this. This could be something I do every year if the donator is able to give it every year and if they like what I do. I'm nervous and excited. Not only do I coordinate the reading inititive program, and plan for a weekly story hour, but I also have to go around soliciting (that sounds so bad!) donations for prizes and drinks, chips, and cookies for the party. It is a big responsibility and I want to do well.

One up-side of this? It's a great way I can make a little bit of money next year when there is a baby around. S/he could go to the story hour with me and I could even bring the little tyke around with me to ask for donations. James could always watch s/he for a little bit if it were a problem. I'm so excited about this too!

I have a meeting next week with Virginia (the head librarian) to go over my ideas for the theme and activities as well as to discuss how many hours per week I can work up to in order to fit into the donated budget. That, plus trying to get my story ready, is going to make it a busy week!
