  September 13, 2000:

Agh! Taking care of children is tough! They come home with a load of homework to do and since they've been at school all day they don't even want to concentrate. I just spent 5 minutes trying to get one girl to count dots on the page (3 sets of 6). She has trouble with multiplication. She wouldn't even count the dots on the page. By the time a child is nine, I know they are able to count dots. She's not even trying!

Then, by the time homework is done, it's dinner and dishes and showers and bedtime. It's 5 hours of rush, rush, rush!

I have to keep in mind that this is a young girl who has lost her 'Poppa' in just 3 short months ago. ::sigh:: It's gotta be a tough thing to deal with.

Writing wise, I'm pleased to say that I've finally posted my second assignment (the third week starts today, so it's actually a day late). It wasn't completely finished either, but as much as I was able to get done. I got stuck on the heroine's goals. She's never been a well developed character in my mind and that makes it very difficult.

This assignment had two parts: one, to list primary, secondary and periphery goals of the hero and heroine, and, two, to write the same scene from two viewpoints. These two scenes together gave me 1700 words so far on the novel. I'm not sure which of the two I'd actually use in the story, though, they both turned out good.

I don't know why, but I haven't been very motivated to work on Silver Star. I need to get motivated, if I want to finish it like I planned. Times slipping away.

If you notice, I've taken down all the books I was reading. I didn't finish, I've just moved on to some other things. The book on the orphan trains is very interesting. I've learned a lot about how society viewed children in the 19th century and how these views motivated the orphan trains to exist.

Since I've been given full charge of the girls, I haven't had a lot of time to read. I had hoped that after they were in bed, I'd get time to read. But I've been so busy in the afternoons after I pick them up to school that I'm too tired to read. So, I end up going to bed early. I've also been having headaches again. Hopefully they will stop soon.
