Silver Star

Silver Lauritsen was placed in foster care from the age of five. She remembers little of life before then. Only parts of a song that her mother sang as a lullabye haunts her. When Silver is seventeen, she is placed with the Cray's. Both Silver and the social worker hopes this will be her last placement before she is eighteen. Silver refuses to attend Catholic catechism with the Cray's, and disaster strikes. Mr. Cray begins to whip her for her defiance. Silver tries in vain to contact her social worker over the situation. The young girl decides to steal money from her foster parents and leave New York city, hoping to hide out the few months until her eighteenth birthday.

Lost, hungry and alone in a new city, Silver soon finds Roger Stien. Roger and his wife, Hilary, own a restaruant and apartment building. Seeing a young girl in need, the Christian couple gives her food and a vacant apartment, first months rent free. When Silver struggles at finding a job, the Stien's hire her as a waitress in the restaurant. Hilary overhears Silver singing one day and asks her to perform in the restaraunt at night. Silver is more than thrilled to show off her musical talent.

Joshua Cain, friend of the Stien's, sees Silver for the first time when the Stien's take her in. From that moment on, she is constantly on his mind. He works as computer consultant at a recording studio. When he hears Silver sing for the first time, he promises himself that one day he'd bring his boss from the studio out to dinner to hear the young girl.

Silver's chance at stardom, however, is slowed because her voice begins to go hoarse at misuse. Her raw talent was never nurtured by voice lessons and the over-use slowly caused her to lose her voice. The doctor's findings during a routine physical prompt Hilary Stien to encourage Silver to find her biological parents.

Can Silver become the singing star that she dreams of? Will she ever meet her parents and defeat the anger against them? Can she ever overcome the pain of the abuse she had? Will she ever find the love she so desparately needs?
