Taking things seriously:
How I started writing

Through my school years, I never much cared for anything. I played in the band for eight years, but never practiced enough to make it beyond eight out of ten chairs. I wasn't into sports because I had 'asthma'. I didn't even try to get good grades even though many of my teachers saw my standardized test scores and knew I could do better. I'm even surprised that I finished college in four years with a degree in Elementary Education and made Honor Roll all but one semester.
So, "Why?" you ask, "Does an almost twenty-four year old suddenly decide to become a writer?"
Well, for about two years, I kicked around a few ideas. Even researching topics about one of them and starting the first few chapters. But I wasn't serious about it.
Then one day, common sense hit me. Sort of like how it hit Newton in the head with an apple. Or, a Mac truck like the bug at the beginning of 'Men In Black'. Anyway, it occurred to me, that if you want something, you have to make it happen. So, I began to take writing seriously.
On September 1, 1998, I dared my sister (who also has toyed with ideas for novels) to see who could finish their novels first. My sister, unfortunately, had some life problems, (bless her heart) and had to drop out fairly early on. I continued though and finished my first novel(Well, actually will be completed in a day or two), Erin Glen Part I, in less than two months!      At the time I am writing this, I have one novel 99% finished, one short story making it's rounds to editors, another in the works, and a plethora of ideas in the works, both novels and shorts. Someday you may walk into a bookstore and see my name published. :)
